Hello again! [Jan. 9th, 2017|02:57 pm]
[mood |happyhappy]

Wow, a whole year without a post! Never meant for that to happen, but then, I don't check here often anymore. Need to get back here more often.

The Phillips Family had a very good year in 2016. I finally got a job -- back at the CDC, working with Shannon at the EID Journal -- and am really enjoying it. Have gone from 20 hours to 32; hoping to go full time this year. We shall see!

I also had back surgery in October to finally deal with my severe sciatic nerve pain. Am so thankful it was successful -- no more sciatica!!! It'll be about a year until my lower back muscles are fully recovered from the surgery, as the surgeon had to detach them, move them to one side, then reattach them; so I do have lower back pain when I overdo it, but am trying not to do that too often.

David was diagnosed with diabetes in January, started following a low carb/low sugar diet, lost 85 lbs. (Wow!) by October and his A1C is back to normal, so he's no longer on diabetic medication and doesn't have to check his blood sugar every day anymore. SO proud of him! He turned 50 in May and has really mellowed out a lot, temper-wise, which is a very good thing. We celebrated our 18th anniversary in December and are doing great.

Mary Kate is 13 now (I know!), is 5'7" (towers over her little Mama), and is doing great in 7th Grade. She opted to go into four gifted classes this year (adding gifted math) and has maintained all As and Bs -- so proud of her! She also made Honor Chorus this year and tried out for All-State Chorus, but didn't make it. But I'm so proud of her for even trying! She's in her 8th year of Girl Scouts (Cadettes now) and is still enjoying it, which is great. I hope the troop sticks together through high school. We shall see!

So, that's it with me for now. Just trying to stay warm today. Brrrrrrrrr, it's cold!

Happy 2017, everyone!!!

Well, hello everyone! [Aug. 18th, 2015|04:40 pm]
Hardly recognize this place anymore, it's been so long!

I usually post most everything to FB, but this is a bit TMI for there, but since you've mostly all been watching her grow up ... Mary Kate started her period! My baby girl is officially a "woman."

For those not on FB, she is now in 6th grade, is 5'5" feet tall (towers over little me) and will be 12 in November.

Where has the time gone???

As for other things, all is going pretty well. Things between David and me are MUCH better, thank goodness, and I actually had a job interview this past Friday. It went very well, but the hiring manager said it may be 4-5 weeks before he makes a decision. Whoa! That sure is slow, but I'll try to be patient.

Hope all of you are doing well, too!!!

DUDE! This made my day! ;) [Apr. 18th, 2013|06:17 pm]

I'm friends with Clint Eastwood's daughter on Facebook, but didn't know when we became friends who she was!

Her name is Kimber Eastwood and she's a makeup artist on "Wheel of Fortune" -- that's why I sent her a friend request!

I thought she might be a distant relative of Clint Eastwood, but had no idea she's his daughter! (He has seven children by five different women -- who could keep up?)

We've chatted many times -- she's very nice; I told her to tell Pat and Vanna they have a big fan in Georgia. ;)

Her father has a big fan in Georgia, too!

Facebook is so wild! :D

Cats or dogs-- which do you prefer, and why?

Cats. Cats. Cats.

Did I mention I love cats?

Heck, I wrote fanfiction under the name Katwoman! I even have a small cat allergy, but am willing to put up with it for my beloved kitties. :)

Have loved cats all my life. I don't hate dogs (they're sweet animals, mostly), but just don't compare to cats for me.

LOVE my kitties! :)

What is the last great book you read?

The Hunger Games without a doubt!

Would have read it non-stop if I could have.

Can't wait to see the film!

How are you celebrating Leap Day?

Working, taking Mary Kate to her religious education class tonight, grocery shopping while she's there and then watching some TV with David before heading to bed around 11.

Yeah, I lead a very exciting life. ;)

Who is the best James Bond?

Well, since I've had a crush on him since I was 14, I will have to go with Pierce Brosnan.

What is (or was) your college major? Do you use it for your career?

English with an emphasis in journalism.

Yes, I use it because my job (records management/data entry) requires an attention to detail, getting things accurate the first time, etc.

I also get to use my skills as a journalist as editor of my division's newsletter. I do this on a volunteer basis, but it's a great way to keep my skills up and to get recognition from the higher-ups here at the CDC, which I have. :)

Soooooooo glad it's Friday! Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! :)

Who is your look-alike?

I've been told many times that I look like former country singer Holly Dunn (she gave up singing and is now a painter).

Here's a photo of her when I think we looked the most alike.

Don’t cheat. Do you know how many countries there are in the world?

Have absolutely no idea. The world has changed quite a bit since I last took geography!

ETA: Okay, so according to Google, it's 196, if you don't count Taiwan (which I do). Go figure. I thought it would be more than that.
